Skeptics in the Pub

Towards secular schools – Challenging religious privilege in UK education

With Jack Rivington

After our short summer break Skeptics in the Pub is back!

We are thrilled to have Jack Rivington from the National Secular Society speak to us on the topic of schools and education, discussing the place (if any) of faith schools, compulsory worship in schools, and the possible impact of this summers election on a range of issues facing education today.

We realise people will have a range of views on this topic, so there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get involved in the discussion.

Everyone is welcome, and the bar of course will be open!

Join us for discussion of the current status of campaigns by the National Secular Society towards secular education in the UK, as well as the continuing threat posed to social cohesion, inclusion, and human rights by religious privilege and influence in our schools. There will be opportunity to ask questions and give your own thoughts throughout the talk and afterwards.

Jack Rivington joined the NSS in 2022 and works as a Campaigns Officer. He graduated from The University of Manchester with a Masters degree in Philosophy and has a particular interest in linguistics and epistemology. He is a keen sailor and spends most of his spare time writing music.
