Talk – Dissection and Dissipation :Life as a medical student in Victorian London – Caroline Rance.
As the 19th-century medical profession became increasingly regulated and keen to define itself against quacks, medical schools tried to leave behind the old stereotype of the dissolute, drunken student. Using the diaries and memoirs of Victorian doctors, Caroline Rance explores the highs and lows of student life at the London hospitals during this era of transformation.

Caroline Rance is the author of The Quack Doctor and The History of Medicine in 100 Facts. She writes about the history of patent remedies at www.thequackdoctor.com.
